Sandy Warren discusses and signs her book Art Blakey: Cookin’ and Jammin’.  Join Warren and friends, including jazz guitarist Seva Venet, for a week of books, beads ‘n bop as they celebrate Art’s life and legacy.  Warren will be signing copies of her book and donating 15% of net profits to the New Orleans Musicians Clinic.  Additional donations will be made to Voice of the Wetlands (VOW).

 A loving and candid culinary memoir by Sandy Warren, the woman who shared Blakey’s life for 22 years and helped raise his son Takashi. Anecdotes and commentary about life with the legendary New York jazz drummer  (1919-1990) are interspersed with vintage photos and lots of recipes of the foods he loved to cook. One chapter relates his close ties to New Orleans, the musicians he influenced there and the city’s  great food which he loved. Warren, an award-winning music and food writer, stirs up her journey with the Blakey she knew and serves it  to us in generous portions.  

     Dr. John (Mac Rebennack), longtime friend of Blakey and Warren, writes a heartfelt foreword : “This ain’t just another book of recipes.  It’s the sweet ‘n sour story of a woman and her man makin’ a home, raisin’ a son, and turnin’ up the flame everyplace they went.”
